Toradora! Complete

taiga sky

Ah, and good. After all the reflections [optional RSS], I am not sure what else to say about this delightful series. It was a lot of smiles, some doki-doki, delicious characters, and finished clean.

I haven’t necessarily changed my thoughts on the nostalgia of it all, and I may never rewatch it, but as a single, quantified experience, Toradora! was definitely enjoyable in nearly every aspect.

In terms of overall satisfaction, I would place it near the ranks of Autumn 2007’s Clannad or Winter 2008’s Shigofumi, which would definitely make it in the top 5 for 2008. Hey, good job!

So, cheers to Toradora!

The Toradora Split

Toradora

Toradora has been an excellent series, but when it comes to it’s high school, lovecom atmosphere, can it really hang with the sentiment of greats, particularly the notorious, youthful, and vigorous School Rumble. This is by no means a true comparison, only an evaluation on sentiment.

Toradora! Around the Sphere

Posted by - October 4, 08

Everyone could guess that Toradora! was going to get a mass of attention, it was intevitable for a number of reasons. Here’s an Impression Round-up:

Totali’s in love. That’s good, all is fine in the world, “LOVE POWER” saved it. On another note, Michael apparently h8s Taiga, very nice position as well. Calawain knows what’s up. Having read the novel a bit myself, I’m pleased with the display. The Fish took a massive screencap glob. I couldn’t agree with Kuro more. “TAIGA ROLL was awesome.Maa also agrees on the ROLLING TAIGA greatness, though I like this part:

I try not making it the main reason for watching an anime, or the main topic of discussion (although, it seems pretty popular for bloggers nowadays to compare seiyuus with their older performances in this kind of uneventful first episodes of a series). Right, in the end it’ll just be an additional excuse for my lack of references about those seiyuus.

No, that’s okay, I think 90% of the posts contained some Shana or ZnT reference anyway, and we wouldn’t want to be repeating common knowledge, right? Personally, Shana and ZnT references are weak to Toradora!; Hayate the Combat Meido, now that’s a bit more relevant… take it for what it is.

Aroduc says:

She [Taiga] does get a shout-out because I too am very snotty and would wipe my nose on Ryuuji’s furniture if I could.

That little personality trait of Taiga’s is pretty fantastic to watch… miniature jaw-drops. Washi describes Taiga as “too rude and selfish” and I think that means a good thing for the premier, because that’s just her, but hopefully we’ll see some dynamics (if she changes, she changes you).

So that being said, my impression/reflection thingy is here. Also, I think it’s necessary to note, no matter how obvious, that Toradora! does not contain any magic, mystes, dragons, prodding wands, capes, fusetzu, fantasty castles, etc etc. It’s quite the typical tale of boy meets mugen-rage loli-doll.

In the translated words of Ginpachi….

It’s smoking because it’s been loli-loli’d so much.

The CM Appeal: Autumn

Posted by - September 24, 08

Based on the commercials I’ve seen, my current AMPINGS (with bias, duh):

  • Gundam 00 Second Season

    autumn08
Previews were a little abstract, but we know where this is going. Play point, the new Celestial Being.

  • Nodame Cantabile: Paris Chapter

    autumn08
Only wondering if the “recent” drama special will be mixing substance. Nodame’s VA does really good anyhow.

  • Toradora!

    autumn08
This wasn’t going to be in here, but I managed to come across a real preview, with voices and art. Yes, I want it NAO~! The light novel does a very nice job, and I hope this series comes off a little different than other tsundere-trademarked shows (Zero, Shana, etc); there is no magic and fantasy!

  • A Certain Magical Index

    autumn08
The designs and production appear solid. In terms of assurance, I think I can rely on it *saran wraps his words for a later date*

  • Michiko to Hatchin

    autumn08
Very stylish, hot, fun. Is this really my second Autumn gear-up post? Do I even have time for all these series?

  • ef - a tale of melodies

    autumn08
Okay, biggest question. While a tale of memories centered around Chihiro, who had memory issues, is this one centered around a deaf girl? Are we aiming for new moe modes, or what?

  • Kannagi

    autumn08
This was the series that bumped me to write this post. I cannot ascertain what genre this may dominate, but it surely looks like 1) slice-of-life 2) mahou 3) shoujo 4) not mahou-shoujo.

  • Corpse Princess

Oh My God, what studio is this?

Notice: Yozakura Quartet were not included, because I didn’t see any decent CM on them. So what’s that 9 series? Also, previous Autumn dabbling was here.

Autumn in the North :: 2008

Impz and co, did their Autumn seasonal preview already. A few weeks ago, I wishlisted some of these on melative. While the season is still weeks away, I’m pretty set in my choices.

Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka
Game conversion, sweet art, just for giggles.
ef - a tale of melodies
It’s ef
Gundam 00 Second Season
It’s G00, and yes Extrange got it right!
Kuro Shitsuji
Black Butler, could be mesmerizing, worth a taste.
Kyo no Go ni
Looks Awesome, still haven’t watched the OVA dammit
Nodame Cantabile - Paris Chapter
It’s Nodame
Shikabane Hime
It’s GAINAX
Skip Beat
It’s shoujo
To Aru Majutsu no Index
Reading some of the manga, extensive light novel source.Cute charas
TodaDora!
Reading the light novel, and Extrange gets it right here as well. TAIGA RABU 4EVA!
Yozakura Shijuusou
I like large casts, and the premise is stimulating.

There’s a lot of promise in the pool, and with so many shows airing, my Autumn 08 season could be growing. As usual, episodic reflections will be on melative.

Note to self: Need a nice javascript/WP integration to the melative API so that these titles aren’t so bland (this is really easy, but I’m working on other things)

What’s in the flow?

There’s something which connects a lot of the stories I’ve read in the past week. Is it a tone, or mood? Or is it a theme?

Toradora! :: In For Autumn?

Posted by - August 12, 08

So I’ve been reading the Toradora! translated light novel, and it’s decent. I can forsee myself reading a couple volumes, possibly checking out the anime [and dropping it], and going on with my life. Crappy synopsis right?

Okay, so does reading bring a little anticipation for the Autumn adaptation? Yes, because I feel the main couple characters are in slightly tense circumstances, but not em0 like Nanatsurio Drops, just sort of “gangstar,” go figure. It’s likely to be a single-season (12-13 episodes) just from the genre, but we’ll see, the potential is there.

I will be on the prowl-nyaa :3
