A Spotted Firefox Extension

Posted by - April 25, 09

What a terrible weekend, crunch time on the uni front, but enough about that. Sometime last weekend, natsuneko attempted to use the melative XUL app, yay. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out, but his suggestion to make a TwitterFox like extension might be better. So I gave it a shot. It was a great suggestion.

Extension

With the awesome feedback received from natsuneko, Seinime, and FFVIIKnight, the extension is usable and in a development-update state. The current version is available here and will auto-update when newer versions are released. More information about the features can be found on the blog. Although the stream is media-context-centric, it can be used without any context just like a normal status update, some of the realized features of the stream include:

  • HTML tags (tt, i, big, b, small, em, ins, del, sub, sup, code)
  • Auto-shortening urls with is.gd
  • Group indexing with the ! operator
  • Tag indexing with the # operator
  • Activity which occurs on the site appears in the stream (ie. recommendations, reflections)

The context-awareness of the stream means users can specify what they are talking about outside the message, and even announce specific experiences such as reading a chapter or watching an episode. The stream may also be unspoiled and hide messages inside announce updates, but still allowing the event to be seen.

One of the most beneficial aspects, imo, is the ability to see activity on a specific media, title, character, creator, tag, or group amongs friends. Hopefully, the implication of that feature makes sense, if not here’s an example:

Cruisin’ Sammy wishes to view all the stream updates his friends wrote about Sengoku Basara. There is no searching. He only needs to visit the URL, http://melative.com/stream/anime/Sengoku Basara, and all his friends’ updates will be available in pages.

Blending with the Combat Butler

Given, I never did finish 2007’s first season of Hayate, but I’ve decided to tackle the mountain simultaneous as the current 2009 season airs. Really, why not?

Doesn’t she look so pumped!?

Sunday Driving Season

Posted by - April 15, 09

Reading Omisyth’s write-up on 1st episode droppage brought me to a nice conclusion about this thing many of us do as anime-bloggers (myself included). We make quite a lot of  断言 and 公言, but does every series/season need a definitive yes=watch, no=garbage?

wernotdoinitrit

Somewhere in the deep, dark, and confusing world of psychology there is a rule that goes like, “If we make declaration of an action, but do not do it, then it will be easier to not do next declared action.” Now before someone points the finger at me declaring Irnotdoinitrit, I’ll point out the importance of this statement, where the validity of the statement does not matter.

We make professions as humans, but we each have a varying degree of upholding our said professions. So the question is, if not every human has a high percentage of upheld assertions, how valuable are they without individual basing? Furthermore why do we do it? I’m curious.

Essentially, we are calling out the names of our attacks…. MMMMazinger. If we are going to call it out, let’s make it Kamina-sized! (he DID get himself Gurren)

The Complement

What is the value of doing an action we did not declare? Personally, I feel it is the spice of life to do thing without even mentioning them… it is the element of surprise. To Enchant! A trip to Juno, I never expected my little adventurous friend to jump from the bridge while we swam below; she didn’t say anything, but she did it… and everyone followed. The rush!

Given, whether we state we will [not] watch/blog a series is somewhat more trivial, but I find it much easier to accomplish things without profession (less weight). Or as a well-known slogan goes:

:D

That’s right.

Note

-This by no means attack on style or way, but a simple pondering as to whether either method is more beneficial? Stating, but not doing, or not stating but doing?
-Sunday Drive refers to the comment made on Omisynth’s blog, which implied we should just drive rather than reading road signs or making signs of our own.. going with the flow. ^_^

We Can Microblog

Explaining how to use melative’s contextual micro-streaming service.

update

Positively ensuring that posts are not lost in the unorganized clutter, use context, and by that I mean denoting posts about a title, onto the title. The above image is the part of the current user stream home on melative, and what we can see is the input asking for a topic, or context.

Spring 2009

Posted by - April 11, 09

Well, I believe I’ve sampled most everything I’d like to take in this season. I’m going to be lazy here and just post my stream of impressions/scrobblings/etc. Individual series can be filtered in the view.

And to wrap-up, in order of priority:

Microblogging: Stem Theory

Posted by - April 8, 09

This comes after responding to one of usagijen’s shared notes via twitter, and being struck with the realization of the confining communication mechanism known as microblogging micro-conversing. It’s not an issue with microblogging, obviously strict-length updates are advantageous, but it is a problem with the nature of responding/messaging within a stream that was constructed for single-forward-broadcasting.

stem

Stem theory: if an event-item is posted, a time-dependent, stemmed discussion should be readily available in it’s own persistent thread.

Spring 2009: タユタマ -Kiss on my Deity-

Posted by - April 6, 09

Or should be, Mah Deity Kisses Me. Furries!

Regardless of a certain fetish1, this series had a very enjoyable first episode. One of the larger noodles hanging out has to be Norio Wakamoto’s performance and just about every one of his lines coming off amusing. Seriously…

WAKAMOTO

Dirty old man spots furry bijin! He is ready to pounce, look at him.
