Backing Up With PAR2

Once in a while, the topic of DVD backups arise in #ab. Earlier this week natsuneko [or nekosasu] mentioned backing up some 300GB onto DVD. All is good in the world, but DVD’s do get scratches and depending on the media, may start to lose data blocks after time. Is there anything that can be done to aid in preservation?

Yes, it’s called PAR2 (Parity Archiving).

The Toradora Split

Toradora has been an excellent series, but when it comes to it’s high school, lovecom atmosphere, can it really hang with the sentiment of greats, particularly the notorious, youthful, and vigorous School Rumble. This is by no means a true comparison, only an evaluation on sentiment.

Nearing the beginning of each season, previews are a big ticket item, especially in the strong seasons of Spring/Autumn. Some of the best I’ve seen come from hashihime and I rather enjoy the group takes such as on THAT and Scrumptious, but what makes a good preview, and more importantly, why the hell does everyone do the work of gathering the basic information on series separately?

Shared Note Power

Last September I wrote about Blog Lensing, but one of the immediate drawbacks to the noting versus blogging is that real blogging allows the source to acknowledge the note. I looked into this, realizing blogs do pingbacks and trackbacks, and found that pingbacks were simple enough to implement without much of hassle code.
