Mornings of Mayheim and Priorities of Fall

Posted by - November 18, 06

For most of the series I’ve started watching this fall, I’ve at least hit the 4th episode. I haven’t made anything formal, but some of my interests are getting uninteresting. After taking a glance over the fall season, I was sure I’d have at least 5 solid shows to enjoy until winter, but I took it upon myself to check out more than 5 just in case “things” happen. The start of fall looked something about like this (no order, first col):

Kanon :07: Strawberry Kitty

Makoto and kitty :3 nyaa

So Kanon is about the only thing I’ve really been blogging at a steady rate, but I enjoy it. Its the little things that get me. Episode 7 is more progressive, and I even found it a bit spooky, but I found it more enjoyable than watching Yuuichi prance his sarcasm pony as in the previous episodes (even though there is still a bit of it).

Black Lagoon :16-18: Counterfeiter’s Escape

Yea, do it

I’ve not much to say that probably hasn’t been covered, but Black Lagoon has to, has to, must be at the tops of viewers list for the season. It’s not cute and romantic, or extraordinarily funny, but its quality! So I didn’t have much to address, but a couple things I noticed.

Asatte no Houkou :04-05: Softly

I don’t know if anyone disagrees, but it seems AnH is well loved. The slice-of-life + drama combination is working great, and I have to agree that it has a special aura about it. I took time to watch the raws early last week, but never got around to reflecting upon it; glad to see Lunar with a double release though. Good Job!

Kanon :06: Miso Soup!

My personal feeling are that this was a good episode, but not quite a match for the previous. There is cuteness abundance, but nothing really stunning, even though the episode gives Ayu more time then the other girls. Ayu is still cute, but I’m feeling kind of immune because of the typical cuteness. In fact, I believe the episode’s goal was to slightly irritate the viewer with the orange tones (orange is supposedly irritating). Anyway, I did enjoy the episode.

NHKにようこそ! (manga tendencies)

Posted by - November 9, 06

I don’t want to spoil anyone, but I just want to state my grief with NHK, and then my love. I took the short time to catch up with some manga reading up to volume 5, and it’s a deep, twisting ride through the spastic world of a hikikomori. Some of the chapters felt strange, almost out of place, due to the sheer randomness, but by chapter 25, we see the most comprehensive overview of the current situations in any NHK chapter. The reason for the comprehension, even though it is very brief and hardly decsriptive of the problems the characters are facing, is that NHK doesn’t do much of “ordinary”. Still, it can deliver quite a fullfilling ride.

Guppie Taiyaki

Posted by - November 7, 06

[from the other night]
At this very moment, in my toaster oven, I am warming a taiyaki. I’m kinda sad it isn’t a full-size version, but I’ve not been able to find any places that sell this little treat around my area. So as usual, I made a trip to the oriental market, though I was on the lookout for taiyaki. (Inspired by tsubaki) I only found the frozen ones, but I’m okay with that. Here’s a pic, but just something I found online:

Seeing small nibblers eating taiyaki in Kanon is too cute not to try it. Yet, I’ve realized that I have no clue how to cook these things T_T. I put it on 300F and left it in for an undecided amount of time, hoping it comes out with a nice heat dispersion and just cool enough not to burn the tounge. While that’s cooking, I also picked up some Konnyaku so I could play with it. Hehe, only joshing. But soon after leaving the store I concluded that I have no idea what to do with it, and the store clerk wasn’t Japanese today. Thank you internet. I found a ‘traditional’ hot-pot recipe, oyster miso something. (BLACK MOON)

Scary good, and an addicting taste. I finished the guppie taiyaki #1, *puts another in the oven* Yea, I have to find a place that makes them. That would be nice, but unfortunately Central Florida doesn’t have a large Japanese community; the largest Asian populations is most likely Vietnamese, many awesome restaurants, but dunno about the taiyaki.

Mer, well it seems the best way to cook them is to put the oven on 300F (which is probably isn’t 300, cheap) and leave a taiyaki (straight from the freezer) in for 15-20 min. I also hear microwaving works, but I don’t have a microwave, or as my 100 year old gramps calls it, an “electron-wave”. Hey, matter is waves!
