Packy Master Hayate

PACKY

I was impressed

Congratulations! You Are a Champion

Hayate the Combat Butler, the second coming, recently ended. Overall, it was great, but the merit is restricted to a select number of episodes (let’s say 3-8, 10-13, 15-17, 18, 23-24)1. Hmm…

Wow, actually that’s a good 75% of the series being at awesome-level lovecom. Given, the general power of the franchise are the subtleties between the main quattro, Ayumu, Nagi, Hinagiku and of course Hayate, but this is precisely where the 2009 version brought out it’s A-game. Although…

As with most of these long-running series, the episodic nature offers a mixed bag of relevant and non-relevant material, but one thing I enjoyed with Hayate is the distinction between these episodes; it was easy to determine on and off-track episodes.

Comparatively2, the 2007 version was like a scattered slice/comedy affair with less relevant lovecom accentuation3. With 20 episodes left in my first season marathon, I feel I can safely say S2 was a delight. Despite the positive attributes, I do not think S2 can stand alone without most of the first 17 episodes of the season one.

Side stories and irrelevant episodes aside, Hayate the Combat Butler is quite charming4.

The Right Depth

Posted by - June 26, 09

Hayate the Combat Butler!! 06-07 brought some of the most hilarious lovecom I’ve seen in months, but underneath it all there’s more to be asserted in the midst of Hayate’s QUALITY harem.

hng!!depth
Her name is Hinagiku, she has her own ED.

There is much to fanboy over, but what strikes most is her level of attainable perfection; she’s not perfect, though definitely perfect enough. It’s a superb situation.

hng!!depthDazzling, radiant starlet

But Hina’s awesomeness is beside the point… non, non non it is exactly the point; her chivalric moment.

What we receive from Hina in these two episodes is resonant; a familiar situation. Less, her awesome inner probing for true feelings, and more her reliance on the simple pretense of Ayumu X Hayate (thus shattering upon realization of the opposite).

Not that her inner investigation wasn’t lovely…

hng!!depth
The first step of ツン should be denial; the inverse of a 12-step program.

Yes, I’m on about her response to Ayumu, and how it painfully sounds so similar to the unstated affairs of Kyou [and Ryou]. Having not read the manga, I have no idea how this pans out between Ayumu and Hina, but it’s expected that Ayumu’s smile of agreement senses something deeper in Hinagiku’s positive encouragement.

Beyond female intuition…

Perhaps lovely chivalry could overcome, but it only gets tougher for Hina by the second. Striking the heart, we know so well how Hina’s feelings escalated when Ayumu briefly explained Hayate’s situation.

Oh the joyous allegory of Hinagiku taking in the lost/stray kitten; that’s so her…. and thus Hayate is there.

hng!!depthXD1000%

The question is, will she really take that painful road we experienced in Kyou’s support for Ryou? I shouldn’t expect such dramatics, for this is Hayate the Combat Butler after all. Still, no reason why such an enjoyable lovecom can’t squeeze in sentiments that actually manifest with the experience.

Personally, this is how that nostalgia is built…

Now about that Nineball mini-mart…

Not Dropping Spring

Posted by - May 13, 09

Call it M, or whatever, but with Spring in full-assault, I really don’t feel like dropping anything; I’m pleased with the mix. So though I won’t be dropping, I’ve purposely moved a couple series to the backlog (while others have wound up there from finals week v_v/sad).

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

I still can’t believe corporate is calling this Brotherhood. Seriously, wtf, the damn show does not even mention Brotherhood anywhere. Small issue lol.

METAL

The real reason to backlog this is much in the same as 2008’s Xamdou; batch viewing. Naturally, I pretty much get the gist of FMA after the 2003 series, and I hear this one may stick to the manga material I’m unfamiliar with, fab, but…

At the moment, single-episode viewing is sort of meh, even with the extra-ordinary pacing. Sincerely, Bro, I’d rather watch 4-6 at at time.

Pandora Hearts

[this blank saves your eyes from anything that may have been considered a screencap]

Awesome Alice premise. Not sure about wonderland crossover, but this series has taken my interest even with the horrid rip/raw/4:3 and subgroups making 720p from SD (yes, sometimes we must invest in new lolmeters). I’ve viewed 3 episodes, they did get better with progress.

Anyway, I feel this would also be worthwhile in batches (The B in Backlog stands for Batch, right?). Somewhere in the first couple episodes I thought it was much too slow with details, but it turns out the pacing is rather nice, and that bothers me if Hearts is going to be a single-season swinger (13 weeks). SO, 綺麗なビデオよりを待たなければならないんです。(I think that particle needs to be moved :/).

Summer Storm

ARASHI

It was likely apparent that I would be watching this come June. I have absolutely no qualm with the series, as I enjoyed the first episode jump-in. The character designs were awkward from some angles, but its a minor viewer adjustment imo. As I am not familiar with the source material, I’ll assume this a sort of slice mix comedy seeing the first episode hinted some good details, but hardly any indication of plot. Summertime~

Basically everything else is cool, but I’m about 3 4 weeks behind in half the stuff I sampled from the premiers; roughly 24 episodes combined. Yup, tomorrow at 4pm I bounce out of Uni for Summer. This post was written over a week ago D:

Blending with the Combat Butler

Posted by - April 19, 09

Given, I never did finish 2007’s first season of Hayate, but I’ve decided to tackle the mountain simultaneous as the current 2009 season airs. Really, why not?

Nagi Power
Doesn’t she look so pumped!?

Well, I believe I’ve sampled most everything I’d like to take in this season. I’m going to be lazy here and just post my stream of impressions/scrobblings/etc. Individual series can be filtered in the view.

And to wrap-up, in order of priority:

Spring 2009: タユタマ -Kiss on my Deity-

Posted by - April 6, 09

Or should be, Mah Deity Kisses Me. Furries!

Regardless of a certain fetish1, this series had a very enjoyable first episode. One of the larger noodles hanging out has to be Norio Wakamoto’s performance and just about every one of his lines coming off amusing. Seriously…

WAKAMOTO

Dirty old man spots furry bijin! He is ready to pounce, look at him.
