Small Getaway

autumn

I was in the Bay area (wine country actually) this past weekend, for a wedding. Very vitalizing, but much too short. I’d say I need to get on the Code Geass finale, but I’m not home home. I may also want to finish up Nogizaka Haruka. Likely I just get the SD versions, since HD isn’t going to aid the mediocrity.

So, other than the mass of coding I must do this week, while the Autumn season begins, I’m strolling along.

Edit: I was planning on the Lucky Star OVA over the weekend, but it didn’t happen. I’m not sure I’m going to watch anything today, as I’ve some sort of fever/headache. This week is going to blow.

Same Theme, Mod Style

Posted by - August 11, 08

So I modified the css once more (last time was March, and it was alright, but I didn’t like the color scheme; dark). That was last night, yesterday I also added style to the melative blog, which is the same layout with minor differences. I tried to keep the content centered, while still flying the sidebar at an offset, whatever that means D:

Anyway, I’ve had the BakaTsuki translation for the Toradora! light novel in my tabs for a week or so, and decided to read a bit ( first chapter reflection is probably on the right ).

It’s tough to watch anime at the moment, with the Olympics on 18+ hours a day (with overlap), but if I have the chance, I’m looking at tasting Koihime†Musou since Impz keeping it standard over at That. Waiting on Xam’d HD, because 03 in hd was super.

Backlogs suck, permalogs suck, but I’m not fearing the experience, simply wishing for less ani-procrastination.

Weekend Rolling

This is one of the “general” update posts, but not Mizunashi.

First on the agenda has to be the season. I dropped off in Spring (freeking birthdays!), but randomly wound up in Summer. The short list:

Eve no Jikan
Sweet animation, reflection here.
Xam’d
Awesome BONES ordeal, saw Extrange posting on this one, and went okay. [reflections]
Yakushiji Ryoko no Kaiki Jikenbo
Can’t resit the character design and mixture of eccentricity. [reflections]
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu
Uber sweet, basically makes we want to hurl, but I’ll go for masochism. [reflections]
Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora
[not yet dipped]
Koihime†Musō
[not yet dipped]

So that’s the anime slice.

Other rambling

Right, well, melative continues to progress through it’s unknown tao, and I’ve posted a couple updates on the blog, which may be interesting or useful to gage what/where it is going. The *wish* feature works well, btw, and I thoroughly tested it with the FF extension API front-end, placing some 300+ wishes in a matter of minutes (looks like this in the end). It really just serves as a more intricate way to interact with media titles, that’s all (melative doesn’t care about how many episodes a series has, but the experience); basically it is a small way to compete with AniDB, which has that file-logging functionality.

Also on the site, I wound up pushing a few light novels into the database. I’m looking at the lists of 4000 anime+manga, but don’t know if I want to push it all in. Then there’s music and movies, bleh. So much media….

Anyway, it’s sports time. Olymipics 2008 are amped!

Winged Wicked Things

Posted by - July 23, 08

So after 8 login attempts, I’m here….

WordPress is freaking out on me, or perhaps I’m misinterpreting the 10 drafts (8 which have been published already). Anyway… crazy software

Guess what? I actually am watching anime once more, rather than? Well, I’m not sure what I was doing in the afternoons of recent weeks, but I think it had something to do with the Sukuran manga and/or 料理 (りょうり).

The important part is me watching anime, but it’s not current whatsoever. Gintama and OverDrive are the culprits, but the latter is proving quite a disappointment by way of direction and production; the story and characters are fine I suppose. I haven’t ridden far into Gintama, but I like the atmospheric yield (can one argue with spins on the Meiji ^^).

This is a blog

I have finally imported my Lifera settings from home server, to my current workstation, both (server and workstation) were revamped in recent weeks, and I was being lazy migrating my /home/ryan folder to the workstation (ubuntu server and desktop, respectively).

Just under 300 unread items, and I feel good about the “rain-checking” (if I watch the episode, I’m going to comment, really don’t care how late I am to the party… sometimes, that’s better, esp. if a certain law enforment agency was there previously).

Blogpocalypse is another blog, which I finally updated, though I lost some files in the migration, and yea, had to use some random image.

Note: the title, Winged Wicked Things is a wicked song by Sunset Rubdown :)

Ryan, What the hell?

Man, May and early June I should forewarn myself that it is a “party” month. it comes down to so many family and friends packing in birthday party after party, and these aren’t the typical balloons and cake, nor kegs and 24 ft. inflatable waterslide parties, they just drain the energy and tend to roll on for days; basically the last 3 weeks of my life. Anyway, here’s a reader update (as in me reading other blogs, which I enjoy more than blogging).

Nothing really new in terms of editorials since mid-week, many episodic entries I want to track back to when I view the eps, but I’ve seen the feed reader over 300 a couple times and made it down to 150-200 without reading a single entry; whatever that means. Still a hundred entries I want to read, and probably will tomorrow, before the Canadian GP.

I am going full on Blogpocalypse, and basically I am lacking a final header image (weak I know), but I have to past and vector my head onto my body, pick a theme and go. As for AloeDream, my blood has been dry of anime/manga for those 3 weeks, but really accessible to film (away from home, cable TV always has the classic channels). I don’t feel I will update much on AD, since reflections basically take the cake with easy of use, and the new API makes entries just a touch of the phone/email/IM/IRC or whatever other demon can flourish a JSON request. So…

Dark and stormy…. Bermuda ^^

The Week :: Broken Things

Posted by - May 13, 08

Yay

Ah, a little late, a little… but it’s only Chuesday! I think weekly wrappings are better on Tuesdays since this is a “clumpy” season.

So what a week, and with so little of my anime habit. Yes, I took a pause on the anime viewing as I had to run out of town for a bit, do an “odd” job, deal with family, (all surprisingly independent events) and am now behind on the Special not-special series and the vampire one; shoujo :3 nyaa.

The big event must have been those major RAWers getting nabbed D: Unfortunately, the decent S.A and VK raws have slowed up; I am just now finding e06 in something other than SD. Mine as well shoot for WS/HD/etc. Speaking of which, I checked out the xxxHOLiC Kei WS versions, and very nice, I like the extra view-space, but I will mostly likely stick with the 4×3’s since it the series is moving so well.

Glance Back

I should probably watch this Library War 05 [and Nabari], which I had planned on last night, but oh well. I did get a moment with KKN and xxxHOLiC, both having solid enjoyably episodes. Apart from my personal viewing, Kurenai seems to be taking many hearts and lungs around the blogosphere, and I’m glad. I wish for two things, 1) Baccano! originally aired with Kurenai quality 2) Baccano! 14. mmmmhmm. That last one is real.

Something else came about over the weekend, Full Metal Alchemist! I stumbled upon a box of discs, from “the move” and decided to see if they were any good. A couple of them were of FMA burned sometime in 2004 maybe? Dunno, but they gave me a headache. I decided to do a PAR2 if they were okay, just for the heck, but it didn’t seem they were okay.. CRC errors all over the place. After a while, I realized I was using a some form of UDF volume driver and they were likely ISO… they played fine in standalone players. Not the point, but ah it was a little refreshing to glimpse a couple episodes as I was troubleshooting; good memories with that series.

Forecast

Unfortunately, I have to double up my seasonal viewing, to catch up with the pack. First, I have to get this workaholic vibe out of my system (sorry melative, I work when I can… at least that is what I should say, steady development otherwise). Since I have a lot of free time I should at least marathon something, perhaps I’ll pick a title this week, Scrapped Princess perchance? The minimum would be to wrap up my 2007 Autumn series…. evidence of a lazy person ^^.

In a seasonal respect, Library Wars and xxxHOLiC are running strong *is satisfied*, and there is good momentum in series I am not viewing (ie Kurenai, Himitsu, Kaiba), so I still have my ambition. It is likely that I will shun coding for today, and dabble in the seasonal offerings.

Man, this post was not progressive at all… wtf bah. >.>

Note: Weekends are getting a little cramped, since F1 season is blossoming, and I love me some F1! Formula 1 weekends are definitely absorbing.

A Meltingpot, A Dispersion

This will be random…

Glass

First off, my absence is due to that media project of the past year, melative.com (as well as two weeks of exams, but that is whatever). I love it, but damn if it doesn’t take literally every moment time and inch of my life away. Good news is that I am on Spring break, which marks one sporadic year of coding towards a public release; unjustly sporadic (4-5 solid months of coding within that year). So yes, this week, the site will be up. If it doesn’t show on melative.com, the testbed is at melative.doesntexist.com, but it will be up! Secondly, I am way to infused in the UEFA Cup and the fact that the USD is being killed by the EURO.

Onto the anime/manga slice. Early this past week, I read about School Rumble going for a third season (over at Novastorm). There is something spectacularly coincidental about my relation with that series. My reasoning is that last weekend I started watching some of the Nuke subs of the second season (episodes 13-19), so when I read the news I was thrilled. I could really go for some more episodes though…

Lately, I was facing that familiar, discouraging attitude toward seasonal anime (mainly last Autumn, I’ve gone nowhere with Winter). It wasn’t any specific series, but anime in general, just didn’t have top priority. Dramas were a hit for a while, but I haven’t been into much the last two weeks. It’s probably because if there is a series I want to watch, but haven’t kept up with, then there is a 5 episode backlog, but I don’t have time to watch 5 episodes, and would rather not just watch one at a time.

Is this going to sound like I’m bipolar towards experiencing anime?

Akira

Months ago, I started an article titled “Mood is everything”, which concerned this very thing. At the end of the day, I have 5 episodes of a series to watch, but I’m dead tired, could probably watch one, but I don’t want to settle for one, so I watch zero. Weeks go by and nothing changes. However, I did find a stimulus package that brought a smile to my face; School Rumble. While, I won’t manage to watch 1 of 5 seasonal episodes, I have no problem sitting down for one episode of a series I’ve had good times with, and never finished; School Rumble ni Gakki is on the long watch list.

I love School Rumble, btw. So, I guess my seasonal viewing skills aren’t top notch, or I should quit school, or melative, but I’ll continue both anyway. One day, One day!

Sowy in a box

Also, I feel sorry about, and would like to apoligize for not keeping up with my blogroll/Recommended anime blogs. Love reading blogs, but with the lack of viewing the material, yea, I’m five steps behind. So すみません. ^_^
