The Leaves Change :: Minami-ke, Mokke, Sketchbook

Another round of late impressions.

Impressions

  • Minami-ke (みなみけ)

    Minami-ke01

Must say that the OP song is bouncy! So Minami-ke is slice-of-life, but it does have fun subject matter. I, for one, found it interest to watch the 2nd half scenes dealing with kisses and love letters; funny stuff. There doesn’t seem to be anything progressive about it (storywise), simply fun experiences. …the characters are cute and mix well.

WIN: 3 sisters + easy enjoyment.
  • Mokke (もっけ)

    Mokke01

Seinen manga source, but… Mokke has an interesting magical/mystic nature, likened to something from Miyazaki. The feeling after being drawn in is a good one. It seems like slice-of-life, but I’d leave it open to develop a substory because of the nature.

My only gripe is that I wish the RAW quality was better. The animation looks nice, but the colors and washed and line are slightly blurred; oh well.

WIN: Rural Japanese Countryside! “other” worldly beings (aka mystical things).
  • Sketchbook: full color’s (…)

    Sora

Ah one of my top slots… FINALLY! It was such a mellow 25 minutes to catch the first episode of Sketchbook (btw why is that “color’s” possessive O_O!). The slice-of-life flavour is mild, not quite slapstick or many “inside” jokes (ie Lucky Star). Sora seems to be the centerpiece, and she is a cute character with reserve and curious perspective. I hope to see more about her world.

WIN: Sora. This slice-of-life mixture is good.

Well, I hope watchers are enjoying the season, as things are settling in. ^^

note: I actually wrote some of this stuff down last week… except the Sketchbook one, that was today. Chiii…
