Oh Mah Gawd, she’s so lightning.

Rather than do a Spring preview… What is Spring really about? The lightning and shining of youth? nai nai nai… what is Spring 2009 about? I have no clue [, but if you ask me later I'll probably say fantasy girls]…oh well I’ll just give my take on premise appeal for a few interests of the pre-season.

Naturally, I don’t have a comment for every title airing, but I can’t watch every title either… These ones I will likely watch at least one or two episodes [on a crisp Spring Saturday morning wearing my lightning jammies].

• 7-Ghost

  
  Goth-Fantasy, what? All kinds of interesting things could happen here [, like over-hype]. Premise aspects have me interested, namely the balance on “politics” and fantasy. Could be some ballsy battle, or some failspace.

• Valkyria Chronicles

  
  Alicia with those red hairpieces ^_____^ I never played the game, but I’m liking the setup and the designs are clean+cute. Battle situations with ラブラブ undertones? Possible.

• Shangri-la

  
  The wave of the futures! The package looks sort of hot and Green, and frankly I think the last Gonzo’ing I followed was Dragonaut. Please go easy on the CG. In any case, this is fitting right in Spring with the anti-powerful organization theme.

• Ristorante Paradiso

  
  Rome and food. I’m wondering if this will have shounenish aspects (Yakitate!), but if it sticks to the slice-of-life, that would be greeat. I’m in for the premier.

• 咲-Saki-

  
  Gonzo, girls, and majong. I know jack about majong. … that is all. I have a bit of enthusiasm stemming from a one, Wakaranai.

• Pandora Hearts

  
  Fantasy. Oh wait… yea, more fantasy. Braids, chains, guns, and pocket watches… wssup. This is lightning-flavored Spring!

• Tears to Tiara

  
  Fantasy with sweet costume design. Is this Spring becoming all about fantasy? Anyway, this will be simulcast in English… weird. Oh my gosh, Pandora Hearts and Tears to Tiara.. it’s like that one summer of Armageddon and Deep Impact. Actually, I’m hopeing this and Hearts will be distinct.

• Full Metal Alchemist (2009)

  
  I can’t believe it’s getting a remake, but it makes sense, with the manga still on the run (which I’ve not been reading D:). So many questions about how it will go down, and I’m sure nearly everyone will be eyeballing this one. Personally, I thought the first production was awesome (high expectations). Side characters are fabulous!

• 花咲ける青少年

  
  Is it strange that I enjoy the reverse-harem? I think it’s just, when theres a girl in the apex of a bishi-bundle, I wonder about it. Turns out these females (and their story) are usually awesome. Truthfully, I can’t label this a harem of sorts since from the manga glimpse, there is a more serious level to be played. Props to usagijen for giving the heads up quite a while back… I think in GR notes. I’m pretty sure this one will be worth the experience. Sorry Jen, can’t find the hardlink, but …OH.MY.GAWD.   Was this the one with the awesome PV… hells yes. I don’t really care that it’s an ero-adaption, or that there may be pantsu abound. Spring is about fun… this looks fun (lighting fun?). I mean, did you see the PV, side-saddle kimono girl on a motorbike… I’m sold. Kimonos and mallets… I’m so sold. Wings… *dies*

• Hatsukoi Limited

  
  Oh, I recall Michael getting up in arms about the manga being cut short (4 volumes). Still, nice designs, and doki-doki school love.. yay.

• Summer Storm!

  
  Summer? Really, you totally slowed my roll. What’s odd is this premise reminds me of a less-serious sola (if that could be called serious, I’d say mildly). It’s Kobayashi (Sukuran), and despite not giving a proper ending to Rumble (which I thought was carrying over into Z), I cannot doubt his style or humor.

• K-ON!

  
  The radio show when they were eating cake… yup, sums it up. Honestly, the chracter designs are cute, it’s musical, the studio, and 4 girls as the main characters. Lovely, I want it now.

• East of Eden

  
  When I saw the merry-go-round image, then read the premise, I whoa’d. I feel a sense of bittersweetness and love the watercolored artwork (lightning tears). Production I.G. has a premise to work with, and the director pulling alot of strings isn’t a newcomer. This is my pre-season gem, I’d buy stock if I could.

So that was nice. For more information on these and other Spring 2009 titles, this next section may have production info or other resources of interest. Sorry it’s not spectacular dancy, but I’m not really a designer.

Spring 2009, we’ll never really know until we’re in the ship, but I notice some interesting things about the dawning season. Fantasy! Is it just me or is there quite an above average number of fantasy titles? I think so. Another interest point is this theme of demeaning, higher, more powerful organizations (be it government, military, oligarchy, w/e) and the story of individuals having to deal with, or overcome such powers…. moral corruption! Saaa~
