And another round in the bag, with some rehash. As previously mentioned, links to reflections can be found on the year-end marathon page. Honestly, this round pissed me off more than the last, and two of these series I have yet to finish, but I feel I’ve had enough to assess them in the final placing (finishing may lower or raise their placing, but because it is either, it is more than likely not to change positions).
Kyouran Kazoku Nikki
Well, this was hell. The comedy was meh, the characters are just wacky and it’s a terrible marathon, possibly better week-to-week, but even then KKN seems very gray to me, and I couldn’t keep interest. (halted at episode 15)
Minami-ke ~Okawari~
Yes, finished this and it goes out with more of a slice feeling than I’d have imagined. All-in-all, I feel it gives a better mood and the comedy can still come on strong. Thoroughly pleased with this series.
Ghost Hound
Intriguing, but in the end it gets a little loose and loses composure. Of course it attempts to bring things together, but some of the aspects which were building intensity were resolved or revealed with meh emphasis; best example would be the bio-plant and where if fit into the story.
Ga-Rei -Zero-
Not a marathon, but completed. Awesome and satisfying, even though I wished for proper ordering of episodes, starting from Kagura’s childhood and moving in with the Isayama’s. Still, Yomi stands as a beautifully dark character… LOVE HER!
Clannad
Yes, I don’t care that it’s typical Kyoto-Key, this series stimulated a large variety of emotion and with solid production. I still am all for Kyou, but Kotomi and especially Nagisa both leave heartfelt impressions.
Kurenai
Fuck, what an emotional rollercoaster. Disagreeable with some of the character’s decisions which setup the end plot, but powerful nonetheless.
The Daughter of Twenty Faces
God, why oh why!? This could have been done better, and though I’m not in position to say, having Chiko become the center of all this attention for individuals seeking Mensou’s legacy was teh suck. Also, for the extreme pacing of the first 6 episodes, the next episodes slow down and start to develop, but the focus is shit. Why the hell focus back on that crazy woman who keeps trying to kill Chiko and get the company? Felt like circles and random boss-u type villains, even if we do get to see Chiko develop, I’m sure the delivery could have been better composed. (halted at episode 11)
And so on…
Oh, well I’m tired, I still need to get on Macross F, which will likely be my final series of the year. It’s looking like イタズラなKiss, カイバ, Real Drive, and 魍魎の匣 (Mouryou) will not get the proper attention1 to fit into the annual perspective, but of course there will be revisions. I’m thinking of making the Year-end posts page articles rather than inline posts.
1- I mention these 4 series as I believe they have top 10 potential, but I am doubtful about my timing. The December marathons were quite an experience this time around. I refrained from mentioning ef-melo, for paying attention to the blogger reaction from episode 6 onwards made me notice douchebag male characters, which I don’t care for… yes this isn’t objective, but knowing this sort of ploy, these characters often bring plot twists which are too extravagant (abnormal) and ultimately fail.
I still have to watch Macross as well…not to mention my original goal of finishing the three previous seasons of MariMite so I can follow the fourth >_<
Is MariMite slice of life? Things with plot are easier to marathon of course ^^ hope you can finish, It’s not that difficult to down 50-100 episodes in a week, just takes some determination and or interest.
KKN did turn out to be more Family and less Frenzy despite the setup, but I still enjoyed the show overall. Good that you tried to give it a shot at least. :3
@TBN, I do plan to finish it, just need a different mindset most likely ^^ The little sentiments weren’t doing it for me in marathon mode, so maybe nibbles. hehe
lol I dropped 20 faces soon after the TRAINWRECK (no pun intended of course).
@lelangir, haha, well yes, I felt like doing it then, but wanted to give it more… seriously, dunno, if it does get good, then it just wasted 10 episodes on some ridiculous stuff.
[...] I am not going to do a aloe,dream-like marathon, I want to catch up at least to the three series I was blogging about - Tora Dora, To Aru Majutsu [...]
