Marathon 2008: Second Round

Posted by - December 20, 08

Well, the [in]finite queue is not friendly, but the biggest issue comes from decidig what I’d like to marathon ^__^ Timing is important. So here is a few of the recent things I’ve finished:

Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

FInished, not a very good marathon candidate, but god do I love those Zetsubou girls. Variety!

Shigofumi

Definite top 10, possibly top 5. It’s dark, light, love, frienship, tragedy, everything! Everything! Found all sorts of emotion pacing through Shigofumi, it surely has an engrossing factor that pulls something from the viewer, but has a wide range of atmospheres to enjoy. Production is very nice and boku boku is dynamic character win.

Library Wars

Safe bet for a top 10. The production quality is ++, brilliant blend of love, comedy, and serious. Enjoyed the concept and characters that really made me smile. Also, Iku - Doujou chemistry is ^_^ and Shibasaki … Shibasaki *avoids melting*.

Shion no Ou

Pretty real series, thrilling and mysterious to the end. Shion, the character, is a strong, smiling charmer. This is definitely high on the 2008 final series list, top 10? Hard to say, it has it’s issues with art/animation around episode 16-17, then gets into this shounen vibe, but it’s finishes well.

Wolf and Spice

Just completed actually, and decent. Has it’s fair share of problems, which I have trouble describing; fluidity, direction, plot details, dunno. Horo is a simple masterpiece, and that’s what counts. Probably middle of the pack for 2008, but I am a fan of fine tails.

Minami-ke ~Okawari~

Have a few savory episodes left to enjoy, and I do mean enjoy. Minami-ke along with LibWars has been sweet, painless enjoyment (I’m not an M guy all the time). Though I’m at the point of genuinely feeling bad for Makoto v.v I should probably dedicate a post to this series alone, because it honestly keeps me going. I feel like it’s added more slice aspect with Fuyuki focuses, but I enjoy it. It’s like a happy place … go to your happy place haha. Haruka!

Nabari no Ou

Marked as finished at episode 13. As to why. SHIT JUST GOT REAL.

And so on…

I believe other reflections can be found on the year-end marathon page, which I’ve been ticking around with. I’m only about 1/4 of the way through, so it’ll be personally interesting to see if I can finish with compsure and not forcefully.

Unfortunately, I’ll likely not post snapshots, because well this round put me deep about 3,000 png files. Maybe if Anisnaps was working, but mah.

Awesome, you like Okawari too! I just think it got a lot of hate ’cause it wasn’t like the first season, but I guess expectations can be immutable. After I noticed it wasn’t gonna be like the first I just threw away expectations. That boku-megane guy was annoying as hell but he was a good proxy for Chiaki characterization. Also, the last few episodes are gold IMO.

Why did I drop Toshokan Sensou? - you’ll also love the DVD special!

Why did I drop Natsume Yuujin-chou? Bleaurgh.

The first episode of Shigofumi had me snoring. I guess I have yet to see this magical boku^2 action you speak of. Horie Yui got me hooked.

3000 screenshots? damn. I have my own archival system that ranges in the 3000’s…for like <100 series though lol.

Yes, Okawari is special to me, as I tend to fall right into the setting and feel a good attachment to it; one of those “awe, I wish it was real”. It’s also interesting to see a mainly comedy series do slice-of-life, which are fun to smile about, but feel like they have depth, though it may not be the case.

Well, Shigofumi was a bit drastic and sad in the beginning episodes but it fades into a solid story with a couple strong sections.

And ya, 3000 screenshots is way too many, but it’s not like I take extra time to snapshot, it’s intravenous, though removing bad ones sucks because it takes going through them. My total library of snapshots for 2008 is probably between 20 and 30 thousand.

Wow Ryan, at least you get stuff done during your marathons! I’d need at least a couple of days between each series…

Wolf and Spice, yeah, I can relate to that, though I got stalled after the sixth episode. Plot didn’t seem to go anywhere, so yah. A wolf is fine too~

I was three times short of starting a SZS+ZSZS marathon, but I really never could motivate myself to face the thousands of signs that I knew were awaiting me… pause, resume, pause, resume… brr *shudders*

3000 images? Heck, I already take 100-ish snapshots an ep, times 13 (or 26), times number of series… gawd. Need to disable capture button for a couple of weeks I suppose. ~.~

  4. Ryan A says:

I do, but I’m in despair that two days without any marathons, though I did fill the time with warming and enjoyable things. I’ll write it off as the weekend ^___^

SZS+ZSZS D: Whooaaaaa, I think that’d be one hell of a tough thing to accomplish, because after 4 episodes its like, geeee… haha. Enjoyable, but repetition of the style gets flat.

100 is pretty solid, depends on the series for me, lately my Toradora avg has been creeping towards 150, but that’s very high. Usually (for most series) its less than 50/episode after I delete some. Surprisingly, marathons make me take less shots than if I were doing weekly viewing, dunno what that’s about.

All in due time natuneko :) I hope this is a good week for batch viewing.
