Though this week holds some exams, I went ahead and dug into some mini-marathons over the weekend.
Detroit Metal City
This was a real surprise, though I was already up to episode 7, it was quite easy to enjoy. The irony was gold, but I sort of wished for more Aikawa Yuri.
Yakushiji Ryoko no Kaiki Jikenbo
Yakushiji Ryoko was an exceptional delight, but the main drawback was the cheap-feeling supernatural monsters Ryoko and Izumida managed to get involved with; felt a bit like Speed Grapher in that aspect. Still, the last 5 episodes were a fantastic finish. Ryoko (the character) does sexy extremely well, and I’m not sure I’ve seen anything this year that compete with it’s quality of service (it’s not cheap and ecchi).
Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
I didn’t finish thisyes , but I did realize it is not a good choice for marathon, however I only felt a little SZS burnout 8 episodes in. While I love the girls and the humor found in their personalities, it’s tough to sit through so many spins on ordinary-random topics… one per week is enough.
I was going to link my reflections for each series, but I realize there may be spoilers, and seeing that they are listed in reverse-chronological order, it’s be to not link directly to the title listing. All reflections can be found here (general listing, no spoilers).
Thus begins a few weeks full of marathons (where applicable). Some things are terrible for marathoning, and I’ll likely not push too hard here, especially if they should have little effect on my annual perspective. I am going to try and get roughly halfway through each series, even if it is a terrble marathon.
I’m gonna marathon Shigofumi…see how that goes…
Nice, that’s actually in my queue as well (most of the list), not sure exactly when I’ll get to it. I’m looking towards ef and Clannad atm, but also a good deal of the Spring series I left dangling after the first 6 weeks. ^^
Ryoko didn’t impress me too much but it was solid through the season, if a bit too focused on the supernatural cases. My favorite parts would have to be Ryoko’s maids and the final showdown.
