How has the otakusphere taken to Ga-Rei 0?

Well, before that I just want to say I am enjoying the presentation with one complaint… I wish it was presented in linear order rather than 2-eps-2-flashback. Ultimately, we can predict the future… here’s how:
Confusion
Aroduc’s initial impression
At the very least, it’s got me interested to at least find out what the hell this show is actually going to be about.
Emotion
blissmo on 3:
Speaking of which, it really saddens me that she and Kagura shared such a close relationship and now Yomi’s taken over by jealousy. Ga-Rei -zero- certainly knows how to attract an audience and keep me interested!
Distaste
Omnisynth on 4:
overall it just feels like I was cheated out of my dark, gory, foreboding anime and given a high-school demon killing romp instead
Stimulation
Kurogane
I just realised Ga-Rei Zero is the only show this season that can make me snap out of “gaming mode”
Future
Omnisynth on 3
Seeing Yomi in “Nee-san mode” rather than “crazy killer Samurai mode” was nice, but I can’t wait for her to go insane and betray everyone on her team.
The future has happened.

So now we deal with passive exposition, kawai Kagura, fierce Yomi, slight comedy, and a yuri-ish form of fanservice. I don’t mind, I’ll enjoy it anyway, because when the air is bright they shine, but we are ensured the fall is coming.
Note: the raw-viewing is pretty decent, and since I find myself taking an hour drive each Monday before sitting down with the episode, I’ve been listening to the audio track on the trip. It’s rather amazing how much comes through with the vocals, for one, episode 5 had me laughing through operation love. Actually, most things Kagura said were amusing.
Bah, spoiler image! Kagura looks so cute there though!
I think I completely lost the will to follow Ga-Rei… I don’t feel like getting into it and its characters, at least atm.
@blissmo, wait where’s the spoiler? aside from being spoiled be her cuteness! Not much is happening on the plot-level, except for one thing, but it’s not yet reached the girls and crew yet.
@usagijen, well, if you get the nerve, start at episode 3 rather than 1, because it’s such a shift and ultimately 1+2 are probably closer to 10-11 in time. It has dark, emotional, and dramatic potential, but having the violence appear in the beginning sort of de-sensitized the moments.
.. I may just be wishing to see the gradient of change in one sad and dark swoop. I mean We all know the change is coming right.
btw jen, I’ve been meaning to catch up with Mouryou and charge your posts
@Ryan A: Yeah, I finished watching it and it was awesome in a sense. But I’m confused as to where all the killing went …
blisssssmooooo, all the killing already happened, and until we catch up to that point, there’s likely no more … except for one “death” of sorts. That’s why I was saying the ordering should have just been straightforward. >_>
@Ryan: So … there’s absolutely no more bloodshed?! ASDJHAKJSDHJH!!!!!
@blissmo, “likely” or “there’s a chance” I’m guessing the tail end of the series will permit more, but I think the violent point was a turn for the story, and sadly it was presented at the beginning. It really depends on how long the flashback goes for, and the overall series length. (I guess 13 episodes).
I don’t know what sub group to pick up with this series. I just download smi’s subs. Can anyone recommend other sub groups who also are doing this?
Michael, I’m not sure who is doing it aside from Aero. :/
edit: Oh, I remember now, AniYoshi is subbing it as well, they seem solid.
I only watched the first episode but I thought it was absoloutely atrocious. Periodically axing the cast doesn’t make up for shoddy writing and cliched characters. If it was the ONLY thing on my “to watch” list then I might’ve considered watching more :p
washi, the first two episodes were weak because of the flow … they should have kept it in order for better effect. if you get the urge to re-test the water definitely start from episode 3.
The show I watched after clicking on a gif of the Pocky kiss scene… *cough*
I’m half-and-half on it. I like it in general, but all supernatural action is retarded. Anyone who enjoys it for that is either a kid, hasn’t watched anime long enough, or needs to get his/her head checked.
Gai-Rei Zero isn’t horribly generic like say… Yozakura Quartet (out of shows from this season) … so I can take it seriously to “some” degree.
So what I’m trying to say… turn Gai-Rei Zero into slice-of-life, and I’m sold.
@aurabolt… みつけた! slice-of-life, that’s a damn good idea. Technically, it feels a lot like that for episodes 3-6, but we are all acknowledging that some sort of strong plot will surface as it approaches. Honestly, I’m just glad it’s not as jumbled as the Tenjo Tenge anime.
I really enjoy the characters, and for slice-of-life that’s what counts [that or the setting].
Yeah, I prefer the recent episodes (3 ~ 6). I’ve been fawning over Yomi lately.
The story makes me squirm, but I do recognize its important. My concern now is whether Gai-Rei Zero is going to prioritize story or character. Of course, I’m hoping for the latter.
If the story takes over, that’s fine. I can still give this show a 7/10, which equates to “good, but not satisfying.”
If it revolves around Kagura and Yomi while merely using the story as a (relationship) plot catalyst, I can raise it to a 8/10.
Back to my busy life then… brlbrlblrblr lrblrb rlbrlbrb rl
aurabolt, I totally know that feeling, she is damn delicious. I think its that playfulness that gets me.
I freakin love Ga-Rei Zero. Every episode something interesting happens. And then Kagura & Yomi are awesome main characters. Including the Kagura x Yomi fanservice
