Tokimeki Memorial :02-04: I Heart

I am hardly one to watch raws, but I do it occasionally. After catching the latest fansub of Tokimeki over the weekend, I went ahead and put a go on the raws of episodes 3+4. I’m not a native speaker or anything, but the vocabulary of Tokimeki is fairly friendly, meaning if you’ve watch anime or any Japanese tv,films, etc a good portion of the language is familiar. I’ll probably continue watching the raws of Tokimeki, as I did with Kamisama Kazoku, but I won’t really being doing summaries, because some of the detail eludes me. Well…

boyfriend?
don’t look at them
chaance!

02> The pacing and line for this episode had major advantages over the first episode. The comedy was fun once again, but I thought the first episode was a bit crazier. Still, the school is entirely nutzo, especially over Aoba-kun *thinks Roman watching Gladiators*. The main objective of this episode was definitely to introduce Kasuga Tsukasa, the pink-haired volleyball player with spunk. The meeting is predictable, but Tsukasa is easily liked, except by Aoba, who just doesn’t get it. Anyway, not too many are happy about the situation.

run? I don’t even know your name
Tsukasa obento
rofl
much much better
rain beauty
Yaioi Mina desu <3

03> Rawr, I don’t quite understand it all. The focus generally is on Tsukasa’s interest in Riku-kun; haha, they didn’t even know each others’ names. The comedy here was so-so, some of the stuff I laughed about wasn’t really a punchline or anything, just cute-funny. The VAs are really good and some of the off noises they make are humorous, mix that with the characters’ actions and appearances and it becomes very fun. Tsukasa has her little ‘moooo’ sound (not moo cow) and a few physical gestures that are kawaii, but Tsukasa isn’t as cute as she is exciting/fun.
Solid episode, a bit away from the comedy, but brings in some feeling with Tsukasa trying pretty hard to please Riku by way of foood (damn straight!). The 80’s style video montage was probably the best I’ve seen so far this season, and it fits, becasue we see Tsukasa doing stuff; not all freeze frames. This was Tsukasa’s ep, but even though the fiery one is great, the 5 minutes Yaioi Mina in the rain gives her the win. Sound crazy? its not, she’s ultra.

Vrooom!
omg, weirdos
lmao, cloak
boys boys boys
you swim like a dolphin!
mm, Amamiya next?

04> Yay! Return to zaniness. My my my, Mina!! If there were doubts about the enjoyment factor of Tokimeki, ep4 should dispell them. The mixture of comedy/sentiment works great here. I laughed very hard a few times at the outrageous characters. The comedy is solid, and the flow is brought with more clarity than the first episode. Riku’s friends are good characters, but like the rest, NUTZ. I couldn’t help but feel this was an adventure for the 3 boys as they secretly paraded around school on recon, or w/e. Also, even though the characters are quite intense, they all have good handles on the situation. Riku’s friends know quickly that he has an interesting the mini-beauty Mina. This is good, because Riku seems friendly with Tsukasa-fire, overwhelmed by Amamiya-hime, and genuinely interested in Mina. See what happens when meeting in the rain!! Enjoyable.

I probably don’t have a bunch of screen caps to post, but I’m glad to have checked out the raws. Tokimeki, thus far, is easy to watch, the animation and voice-acting is ‘A’, and the many characters are so much fun. Episode 4 makes me glad that this is 26 episodes, seriously. It’s not ball-breaking action, just nice mellow-insane harem; so far not super-perverted either. It’s gonna be good.
